Bianca Andreescu Withdraws from US Open Due to Injury

Canadian tennis star Bianca Andreescu has withdrawn from the 2023 US Open due to an ongoing shoulder injury. The 22-year-old Andreescu was scheduled to face Jasmine Paolini in the first round on Monday but was forced to pull out on Sunday. Andreescu has been struggling with the injury since Wimbledon, where she lost in the second round. She attempted to rehabilitate the injury, but it has not sufficiently healed to allow her to compete at the US Open.

Jasmine Paolini Advances to Second Round with Andreescu Withdrawal

With Andreescu's withdrawal, Jasmine Paolini automatically advances to the second round of the US Open. The 27-year-old Italian will now face either Anna Kalinskaya or Daria Saville in the next round on Wednesday. Paolini is ranked 55th in the world and has a 22-18 record this season. She reached the third round of the French Open in May and the second round of Wimbledon in July.
